This book is essentially compiled from notes on lectures given by the author at Harvard University in a half-course on transform theory. It was attended chiefly by seniors and first-year graduate students, and only a basic knowledge of real and complex function theory was assumed. The book is designed to touch on a variety of the most fundamental aspects of the theory rather than to strive for encyclopedic coverage of any part. We hope that it will be useful to a student who is sampling various kinds of mathematics before settling on a direction for his own research.
