With the completion of the human genome project, followed by the rise in high-throughput
technologies like the various microarray and now high throughput genomic sequencing
platforms, we experienced the birth of Systems Biology after its long gestation. This revolution is
marked by a change in the research paradigm from the single small-scale experiment, i.e., following
the change of a component in a multi component system, to one that attempts to simultaneously
monitor the change of tens of thousands of molecules within this body. This clearly necessitates the
unparalleled use of project-specific informatic tools, which, to date, requires an unprecedented level
of development to collect, manage and mine the data for interesting associations.
