The structure of the Baltic Olympiad in Informatics (BOI) and the nature of tasks are similar to that of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
BOI participants demonstrate their problem solving skills by writing computer programs unraveling complex problems. The competition tasks are of algorithmic nature, but the contestants have to show various basic skills such as problem analysis, design of algorithms and data structures, programming and testing.
The winners of BOI belong to the best young computer scientists in Europe and world.
