Revised Editions of Books I, II and III of Essential English have already been produced; this present edition brings Book IV into line with its three companion volumes. The book has been completely overhauled; those parts that the experience of teachers and students had proved to be of interest and value have been retained, the rest has been replaced by newer and, it is hoped, more interesting, material.
