The methods to study plant embryogenesis have undergone a rapid evolution over the past decade. With the advent of postgenome era in biology, it has become possible to generate embryo-specific mutants by T-DNA insertional
mutagenesis, and more recently by RNA interference, to use fluorescent protein probes for live cell imaging in the embryos, and to analyze gene expression in few-celled embryonic domains. These and other impressive advances in development of new tools in plant embryology have inclined us to compile the scattered information on the methods used in the different laboratories for understanding plant embryo development and bring them to one platform.
