The material presented here resulted from some 30 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Although trained as an organic chemist, the author had the good fortune to associate with a number of skilled, practical-minded statisticians during his career, initially while a process engineer at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, St. Paul, MN, and later at SEMATECH (now International SEMATECH) in Austin, TX, while part of the Statistical Methods Group in that organization.
