The meeting on "Advanced Design Problems in Aerospace Engineering" was held in Erice, Sicily, Italy from July 11 to July 18,1999. The occasion of the meeting was the 28th Workshop of the School of Mathematics "Guido Stampacchia", directed by Professor Franco Giannessi of the University of Pisa. The School is affiliated with the International Center for Scientific Culture "Ettore Majorana", which is directed by Professor Antonino Zichichi of the University of Bologna.
The intent of the Workshop was the presentation of a series of lectures on the use of mathematics in the conceptual design of various types of aircraft and spacecraft. Both atmospheric flight vehicles and space flight vehicles were discussed.
