Many phenomena in heavy particle collision physics and molecular spectroscopy are dominantly controlled by the interaction of ionic and covalent configurations of the system. The most representative among these are ion-ion recombination or production processes, collision-induced dissociation of a large class of molecules, collisional excitation and quenching, chemi-ionization and chemiluminescence, etc.
