This report deals with the design of least cost PCM switching arrays for a prescribed traffic capacity (traffic load, number of terminations, probability of loss). A systematic survey is given on suitable structures having different sequences of time- and space-stages.
In order to calculate the probability of loss and therewith the traffic capacity of such PCM arrays a method is developed to easily map PCM switching arrays into equivalent SDM link-systems. Then, the loss of these equivalent SDM systems can be calculated by means of well-known approximate methods.
