Anselm possesses a subtlety and originality that rank him among the most penetrating medieval thinkers. Like Augustine, he is a Christian Platonist in metaphysics who centers his proofs of God's existence on the value theory intuition that some is too good not to be real! Simply stated, in Monologion, his cosmology holds that the single source of all goods is Good through Itself (per se) and hence supremely good. It exists through itself and is the self-sufficient source of everything else.
