In 2000 we published Organosilicon Chemistry - From Molecules to Materials, Vol. IV, which contained the lectures and poster contributions that were presented at the IV. Munchner Silicontage, held in April 1998. However, this Volume V of the same series collects all scientific contributions that were presented at the 1st European Silicon Days, Munich, 2001. Between 1998 and 2001 the Munich Silicon Days had been transformed into European Silicon Days. This important reorganization happened because it was requested by the international community of scientists in both academia and industry. Furthermore, the Munich Silicon Days, jointly organized by the GeseUschaft Deutscher Chemiker and by Wacker-Chemie GmbH, which started in 1992 and continued every second year, were most successful in bringing together an exceptionally large number of participants from industry and academia.
