One of the dominant themes of modern mathematics may be described as "analysis on differential manifolds." Of course, the word "analysis" is to be understood here in its widest sense; in it are inextricably blended a range and variety of concepts whose latent fertility would be stunted by confining them within the old and artificial divisions of algebra, geometry, and analysis in the classical sense of these words.
